Max’s Kansas City was a nightclub at 213th Park Ave South, opened in 1965 by Mickey Ruskin. He wanted it to be an art bar: “If musicians can’t pay their tab, I’ve got nothing. But for artists, they can give me a piece of art.”
Andy Warhol was one of the regulars: “Max’s Kansas City was the exact place where Pop Art and Pop Life came together.”
